Welcome to Leonard's Bakery, an iconic gem nestled in the heart of Honolulu at 933 Kapahulu Ave. This beloved bakery not only serves as a cornerstone of local culture but also tantalizes taste buds with its remarkable array of freshly baked treats, making it a must-visit for anyone traveling through the vibrant capital of Hawaii.

At Leonard's Bakery, the crown jewel of their offerings is undoubtedly the malasadas. These fluffy, doughnut-like pastries are a true Hawaiian delight that will have you coming back for more. Freshly made and generously filled, these sweet treats are known for their soft, warm texture, crisp exterior, and heavenly flavors. One customer, Iryna Yaresko-Linska, remarked on the unbeatable taste of the original malasada, lightly dusted with sugar yet heartily satisfying, while others like Truth Only couldn’t resist the allure of the filled varieties that are “so good I could eat them every day if I could.”

The bakery boasts an outstanding efficiency in service, which is immediately apparent from the moment you walk in. Customers like Paul Pérez have praised the quick turnaround time for orders, often taking as little as four minutes during peak hours. With the increasing popularity of Leonard's Bakery, you may find a line forming outside, but rest assured, the wait is well worth every bite. Freshness is guaranteed, and you can enjoy the anticipation as the staff calls your number from the window, ready with your delicious haul.

While malasadas are the star of the show, Leonard's Bakery also offers an array of other baked goods, but many regulars recommend sticking with the malasadas for an authentic experience. One enthusiastic visitor, Estela de la cruz, cautioned others, "Don't bother with the cupcakes, just get the malasadas!" The intimate yet bustling atmosphere invites both tourists and locals to gather, share stories, and delight in their gastronomic discoveries.

Leonard's Bakery isn’t just a place to grab a sweet treat; it’s an experience that captures the essence of Hawaiian hospitality. Whether you’re there to satisfy a sweet tooth or to take a break from your adventures in Oahu, this bakery offers the perfect respite. Location and Service The bakery's efficiency was immediately apparent. At 1 p.m., a time often associated with a post-lunch rush, the ordering process took a mere four minutes. The delivery was equally prompt, with my order ready just five minutes after being placed. This swift service makes the visit convenient and adds to the positive experience. Product Quality and Value The bakery's signature malasada, a sweet bread with Portuguese roots, was the focus of my visit. The price of $2.45 per piece with a custard filling seemed modest, so my expectations were tempered. However, the value exceeded them. The portion size was generous for the price, and the quality was impressive. The texture of the malasada was a standout—perfectly fluffy on the inside with a delightful, crispy exterior. I chose the guava-filled option. While the flavor was pleasant and soft, its color seemed a bit artificial, which detracted slightly from the otherwise natural feel of the product and left a vegetable grease in their mouth after eat it . Based on this, I would recommend opting for the classic, non-filled version on a future visit to fully appreciate the quality of the bread itself. Overall Experience This was a great experience centered around a beloved local product. The quick service, combined with the excellent texture and value of the malasada, makes this a standout bakery. It’s a testament to the fact that you can find high-quality, authentic treats at an affordable price.

Forget donuts, when you’re in Hawaii there’s a far tastier delight awaiting your tastebuds in Kapahulu, Malasadas! While they have many options with fillings and the like, I go with the original for old times sake. They care a totally different experience when freshly hot versus sitting around under a heat lamp, so there’s some luck involved with the timing. I arrived 10 minutes before closing, so I wasn’t expecting the best, but to my surprise, they were still handing out fresh ones! Jackpot! Ordered my original and waited outside. A bunch of other customers were there polishing off their purchases. Don’t waste time talking them home, eat them right away for best taste! Mine arrived, piping hot fresh, and hard to hold still for a photo. Taste was crispy outside, soft and hot inside, and delicious. You won’t regret coming here! Highly recommend for your Hawaiian memories, and will be back for sure.

Went around 4pm and waited 15-20 minutes. We got one of each flavor. TBH I only liked the cinnamon and custard ones. The other flavors just tasted very very light. They came out warm which was nice but they do not taste good when they’re not warm.

On our friends’ recommendation, we came here to try the malasadas. We arrived about 10 minutes before closing, but we were still able to buy everything we wanted. My favorite was the original flavor — just sprinkled with sugar — though for me it was a bit too sweet. Still, the dough and the baking itself were quite tasty. The chocolate one was also fine. But the coconut one, and the third flavor we tried (I don’t even remember which), really weren’t to my taste at all. Overall, though, it was interesting to try — it’s a popular and well-known spot. That’s why I’d recommend giving it a try. For me and all my friends, the most original flavor remained the favorite

The place for good Malasadas! Love that they have numerous locations so the line is not that long at the original location. You can order online for pick up which also makes it convenient. We got there around noon and the line wasn't as long. You order inside and wait outside for pickup. I don't really venture out so stuck to the original Hawaiian sugar malasadas. I noticed there were various options you can have them filled to your liking. Also inside you can find some cute merchandise and insulated bags if you want to take donuts on flight. Staff were very friendly and patient as customers took time to decide what they wanted.

A throw back place, fun find. The most delicious malasadas, piping hot and full of cream. The outside is crispied up and the inside dough is light. Probably one of the best I've ever tasted, and, at the moment, I cannot think of any better! I also ordered a red velvet cupcake and a vanilla cupcake. Don't bother with the cupcakes, just get the malasadas! And they open till 7pm, which is great to pick up malasadas as dessert! Total yearn to return. Place was super clean as well! Try going if you are nearby!

Heard from everybody we had to check this place out so we made it happen. The line was crazy when we got there as expected and the little bit of parking was even crazier. Wait time from the time we got in line until we got our donuts was 30 minutes. They were so delicious and fresh.
